Education Minister will not reverse St Anthony’s SNA cuts

Education Minister Batt O’Keeffe has said he will not reverse the decision to cut four special needs assistants from St Anthony’s Special School in Castlebar. The Minister was approached by Fine Gael deputy John O’Mahony outside the Dáil on Wednesday night, while at the same time a public meeting was being held in the Castlebar school to protest against the proposed cuts.

Reduction in cost of drugs good news for Mayo consumers

There is good news for Mayo consumers as the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association has agreed to Government requests to reduce the cost of drugs. That’s according to Mayo Fianna Fáil TD and member of the Oireachtas Health Committee, Beverley Flynn. MEP Jim Higgins has also welcomed the cuts having written to the Minister for Health last November seeking the reduction from manufacturers.

Following the announcement of almost €12 million roads funding for Mayo by the National Roads Authority, Mayo Fine Gael Deputy Michael Ring has criticised the allocation. The five-member delegation from Mayo County Council which met with the Oireachtas Committee for Environment, Heritage and Local Government left Government buildings on Tuesday night happy that they had put forward their best case for the retention of the new Mayo County Development Plan. The issue of the plan has rumbled on since it was adopted in April unanimously by the 31 elected members of Mayo County Council, with a number of submissions and changes put forward by the Minister for Environment, John Gormley, and his department and issued on his behalf by County Manager Des Mahon.
